Rain, Rain Go Away!

There hasn't been much progress on the house because of the rain. I made a scarf for Zoe out of the yarn we Kool Aid dyed on New Year's Eve (I did
an over-dye of black cherry to make the other colors blend and not be so vivid).
This is Amber being silly and modeling it.

I also finally finished Brian's slippers.

Now it's time to get ready for a trip to Lowe's to buy molding, price gutters, siding and drywall. This is one of those times that I wish we had a pick up truck.

Well, somebody told me that when a door closes that a window opens. I just hope the window doesn't slam down on Brian's wee little... fingers. He is going to work some active duty days starting on Monday so he'll be in Oregon for a while. This way he can earn some money and look for a job down that way.

We met with some real estate agents this afternoon. I (Brian will be gone) have a moderate amount of work to do on the house and yard, but the goal is to have it ready to list on Valentine's Day. I'll be painting, etc. instead of knitting for a few weeks. Bummer.

This weekend Amber & I will dye some yarn for her upcoming Science Fair experiment. We will dye one batch with alum and the other with white vinegar. We are trying to determine which will act as a better setting agent and which helps the yarn maintain its color. If there is anything left of the yarn after it has undergone the repeated washings then I'll make lots of socks.

Tasha has been following me around today. She really is a sweet kitty. Although, I do wonder if she truely enjoys my company or if she is just hungry or seeking protection from Bonny.

Can you hear me now?

Brian lost his job at Verizon today. Instead of, "Can you hear me now?" the question should be, "Can you understand my broken English?" I still don't understand how American companies can get away with outsourcing all of their jobs and not have to pay steep penalties. I could rant forever, but that wouldn't pay the bills or get Brian's job back. I guess it's time to get serious about the ebay sales. I already cancelled cable and some other luxuries. Brian will try to work some active duty days while looking for permanent employment. We'll be moving, probably to the Portland area. That means I'll be using a lot of would-be knitting time working on finishing up some home-improvements necessary to selling this place. We will keep our internet service and hopefully our email addresses will remain the same. Ciao for now.

I NEED CHOCOLATE...

I don't smoke and I rarely drink alcohol. My vices include a terrible caffeine addiction (both coffee and tea), saying bad words and the buying and hoarding of yarn. But every now and again this terrible urge to eat chocolate hits. And it isn't like, "Gee, chocolate sounds good." It's more like, "If I don't get some BLEEP BLEEP chocolate someone will be hurt." Tonight is one of those times. In a fit of desperation I opened a can of chocolate frosting and ate two huge spoonfuls. I don't think there's actually cocoa used in that stuff. My chocolate craving is unsatisfied and my tongue feels like it's covered in shortening.

Today wasn't particularly hectic, but due to an intensive reading program at my two older daughters' school, planning a science fair experiment and my youngest being home for the day, I haven't had time to knit today. I'm hoping that 20 minutes or so will give me enough time to finish up Brian's slippers for felting. I need to get back to the Philosopher's wool cardigan and it's been on hold.

Here's a link to the cap that I made for Brian on Saturday(see below). It is a wonderful, quick pattern and I'm sticking it in my binder to keep for future hat making. I used about 4/5 of a skein of Cascade 220 for this. http://www.needlebeetle.com/free/seacap.htm

Good night all, here's to chocolate dreams and no dropped stitches!
