Paperwork bites

Today has been spent sorting through piles and piles of paperwork.

This is a "rustic" shawl started with my humble homespun. This drop-spindle stuff is addicting. I couldn't wait to try knitting with it.

And Whimsical Knitting is holding a contest over at her blog. She wants to see what y'all have been knitting. She wants to see your creations modeled, BUT they must be used or worn in a way other than what they were intended for. My elder daughters flat out refused, but A3 succombed to Halloween Bag bribery (hence the lollypop).
A3 is modeling the latest in handknit must haves for the up-coming holiday season.

This fun and fabulous hat is sure to turn heads. And it doesn't just make a fashion statement, but it's also highly functional. Just turn it over and it doubles as a handy doggy bag. And it's extra-large size allows you to hide bad hair or to discretely bring home a leftover smorgasborg ham or turkey. (my felted knitted bag).

If second helpings leave you gasping for breath then this shirt's for you! Simply slip into the little girls' room and re-wrap your top. You're ready for dessert. (scarf)

Make a statement with this one of a kind skort/leggings. Notice the handy potty portal. (my Noro pull-over)

No time for a pedicure? No problem with these ultra-chic party slip-ons. Your toes will be hidden, your corns comfortable and your bunions blessed. (mittens)

The final accessories in A3's holiday ensemble are these delightful gloves. Heavy drinkers will appreciate the lack of fussy finger holes. The multi-colored pattern will hide food stains and extremity frostbite is minimalized when house keys are fumbled due to the single pouch design. (socks).

Mama Mia!

On Saturday some lovurly platinum roving arrived from Mama-E. It's all shiny and silvery and beautiful. The drop spindle Cindy (check out Cindy's stunning Victoria shawl she just finished) generously gave me last year made her debut and this was the result. It may not be pretty, but I enjoyed giving it a "whirl". Okay, bad pun.

Monday the 2nd installment of yarn came from Mama-E's C-Eyeber Fiber Fall Sock club. This colorway is titled "Indian Corn." She was spot on with the colors.

And here is my first attempt at the Embossed Leaves sock pattern in none other than Mama-E's famous Beau colorway from July. This picture does not show how pretty the colors are. I love the pattern too, except that I substituted a plain 1x1 rib for the twisted rib. It's more comfortable both to knit and to wear in my opinion.

Notice a theme here? Mama E is unabashedly and almost solely responsible for enabling my fiber addiction during this past week. I say THANK YOU, my DH... not so much. If he's a really good boy then maybe I'll make him a Willie Warmer with my platinum handspun! Just kidding, it aspires to a higher destiny.

Little Miss A3 is feeling much better now. Thank you very much for all of your kind comments. She's going to be a "butterfly, unicorn, pirate" for trick-or-treating tonight but the candy will have to be saved someplace safe from a hungry Dad and sisters. Have a safe and happy Halloween everyone!

Ouch!

Yesterday we picked up our "punkins" for the massacre.

Tops were removed.

Disembowlment commenced.

The carnage...

yielded ghoulish fiends.

And all was well until A3 did a swan dive off of the loveseat in the family room and landed mouth first on the hearth edge. Her lip split open and two of her teeth came through the side of her lower face. This warranted a trip to Portland to the urgent care clinic. 3 hours later we left with exhausted girls and B had a raging headache. This morning A3 stayed home from school. She can't talk or eat solids because of a rather large stitch in the corner of her mouth. The medical people were nice and they gave her a witch, now named Daisy, for being so brave. Daisy's nose came off during the visit and one of the medical technicians stitched it back on. Today we will rest.
