Another pair for the Christmas basket!

I finished off another pair of socks today for the Christmas basket. My goal is to make socks for almost everyone and have those destined for overseas recipients out by the end of September so I don't have to pay a fortune in shipping.

Sometimes I forget just how pale I am until I see body parts luminescing back at me in photos. Yikes! All part of living in western Washington.

So here's a dilemma that I'm sure many of you face or have faced. What do you do with all of these leftover bits of sock yarn? I don't want to throw it away, but combining some of the colors and different types of sock yarn would make for an ugly and uncomfortable pair of socks. If anyone has any ideas or can suggest a pattern then I'd be extremely grateful!

Your socks look great! And what's not to love about an FO picture with a cat lurking in the background?

Sometimes I make baby socks from the leftovers. But I'm also saving them to use on the Weavette hand loom I bought - maybe someday I'll have a sock yarn afghan.

I'm so impressed that you are working on Christmas knitting already!!! I'm always scrambling at the last minute. I save my left-over sock yarn to use as scrap yarn for provisional cast-ons, life-lines, and such. :)

More gorgeous socks. Damn girl, you rock. There's a glove pattern at Elann.com (free) that uses old bits of self-striping yarn. Either that, or a pair of Molly Weasley socks(that's what I'm shooting for). You are brilliant on the Christmas gift front, as well. Very smart. I'm trying to be the same.

I have grand plans for someday making a sock yarn afghan, but I don't think it's likely. I'm saving some of it for baby socks, other bits I think could make some nice sachets for drawers and linens.

I have a pile of 'leftovers', myself. No idea what to do with them...

I totally aodre these socks, such a beautiful colorway! Like you, I've always been pondering over what to do with all that leftover sock yarn, it's all so colorful and lovely that my heart would break if I'd just throw it away. So far I never came up with a good solution, so reading through the answers you got so far in the comments sure did inspire me too! Hm, using it for an afghan sounds great, what do you think? Imagine the great colors in it!

May I suggest a few pairs of Flip Flop Socks. I know baby booties and yada yada, but sometimes it's just to hard to part with the goodness. Also it means you don't have to give up handknit socks in the summer time. AND they are perfect for winter pedicures. I just finished a pair that you can see on my blog. Here is a link to the pattern.Flip Flop Socks
