Knitting Stores!

Remember last week when I said we were taking a drive over to Raymond to check out a yarn store? Well, I neglected to share the experience with you all. The store is called "A Willapa Connection". Ruth greeted us at the store and entertained both the girls and me for over an hour. The store has a great selection of Lamb's Pride and they will special order any of the Henry's Attic yarns currently not in their stock. I purchased some soft, nubby (but not boucle) cotton as well as my first batch of acid dyes to experiment with. Ruth was delightful and she took some really cute picture of the girls. We will definately be making this a regular stop on our drive out to Grandma's house.

Today the three girls and I ventured out of our hotel suite in search of Carpe Vinum. It is a Portland wine store that is owned and operated by Karen's brother, Mike. I have only met Mike once or twice before briefly but he was extremely helpful and friendly. Genetics are truly freaky. I swear that Mike and Karen are clones with the exception of that whole gender thingy... and the goatee.

After leaving Carpe Vinum with three bottles of wine we explored a little bit. We drove past three yarn stores in a relatively small area. The only one we stopped at was the Yarn Garden. The Yarn Garden has three large rooms of yarns, one room with needles and accessories and a coffee/tea shop called the Sipperee (I think). Fiber overload left me drooling, but I only purchased three skeins of yarn. I am still unable to post pictures. My only criticism of the Yarn Garden was that parking was almost non-existent. I think this is the norm for many city businesses though.

I'm off to gaze at the blogs of others while I still have some computer time. Cheers!

I love the Yarn Garden and have taken many classes there. There's another yarn shop in Sellwood, The Abundant Yarn Co, and it has a small parking lot. It also has a small cafe. The store is more wide open but has about the same amount of yarn. They are both my favorites.

The great thing about Carpe Vinum is the bakery across the street. The whole neighborhood smells like cookies and bread! Mmmmm! And the quilt store next door, of course! Wendy is very nice and they have stitch-ins every Tuesday morning. Mike says he can hear them cackling like chickens through the walls! See you soon!

Sounds like you girls had a great day. The strain is hard, though, not being all together and being without a home. Damn. I totally approve of the 3 bottles of wine. Take care of yourself.

Whew, Mama-E had me running out to the van to pull my dyes out. Thank you Erin, my dyes are indeed Procion. I guess I don't know my dyes yet. I felt so "professional" for evolving beyond Kool-Aid and Wilton's food coloring. Yikes! Sounds like some research is in line.

It sounds you girls had such a nice time indeed - and hey, no one can blame you for getting these three bottles of wine, you so deserve it after all these hectic times!
I wrote you a long e-mail after the last comment you left on my blog but unfortunately got it returned with an error message - oy! I just wanted to say a big thank you for your kind words and your support - what you wrote is definitely true and I'll get this checked with my doc's today! Thanks again, Heide, and all the very best to you!
